Tobacco Guidelines
Tobacco use and how it is underwritten is a constantly changing topic in the life insurance industry. An underwriter will evaluate the type of tobacco (cigarette, pipe, cigar, etc…) and how often it is used before declaring a tobacco rating for a client. Many carriers offer programs that will allow for a non-smoker rating if the tobacco usage is an occasional celebratory cigar or even if the type of tobacco is smokeless. Other carriers will allow an insured to try and qualify for a non-smoker rating after the first policy year if they can demonstrate through clean lab work (blood + urine) that they are tobacco free. Below are a listing of our carriers tobacco guidelines.
